(TheIndoDaily.com) – Giant property developer Agung Sedayu Group is suspected to be linked with the construction of the bamboo fence, which stretches 1.5 km offshore north Jakarta coast.

President Prabowo Subianto last week ordered related ministries to demolish the fence as it was considered illegal. Fisheries living in north Jakarta have also protested the government for allowing certain parties to build the fence as it prohibited to sail, to catching fish on the sea.

Lawyer of Agung Sedayu Group. Muannas Alaidid, said in a statement to the press that some of Agung Group subsidiaries did hold the so-called ‘building use rights certificates’ (SHGBs). However, these companies received the certificates when these sea surface areas were still land.

He claimed that the sea surface was previously fish ponds, but then it turned into a sea area due to abrasion. However, observers and activities objected to the claim.

They argued that the sea area would be covered with soil, which will then allow the property developer to build properties above the area.

Muannas said that the land around the sea fence also has been issued ownership rights certificates (SHM) belonging to other residents. He claimed that the land was bought from the people.

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Nusron Wahid said that his office will immediately revoke the building use rights certificate (SHGB) and ownership rights certificate (SHM) for the fence in the waters of Tanjung Pasir, Teluk Naga, Tangerang, Banten.

He said the issuance of hundreds of SHGB and SHM in the coastal area of Tangerang waters was procedurally and materially flawed. (RK)
