(TheIndoDaily.com) – The Indonesian Minister of Defense, who has been elected as the new President of Indonesia, on Wednesday (31/07) met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia.

The meeting aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, according to the Ministry of Defense statement.

Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto thanked President Vladimir Putin for the meeting and conveyed the best wishes from Indonesia President Joko Widodo.

“Your Excellency, thank you very much for receiving me,” said Minister Prabowo while shaking hands when greeted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In this meeting, Minister Prabowo highlighted the long-term friendship and historical support provided by Russia (formerly the Soviet Union) to Indonesia, including infrastructure and military assistance, and emphasized Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Russia.

The two also discussed cooperation between the two countries including food and energy security, collaboration on the use of nuclear energy, tourism development as well as education.

“My main emphasis, besides food security, energy security, is also on education. And I plan to start a large-scale scholarship program to send our students outside Indonesia, especially for medical training,” said Minister Prabowo.

In addition, Minister Prabowo also reiterated his desire to continue and expand cooperation between the two countries. “I want to invite the Russian delegation to our defense conference and defense exhibition in November 2024,” he said.
